Image of Paid ReviewIt’s been a heavy discussion lately about Buying Links, Paid Links or Paid to Write Review. Even Google ask people to report them to improve their algorithmic detection of such links.
For this discussion, it’s best to know that buying or selling links that pass PageRank is in violation of Google’s webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact a site’s ranking in search results. Link-based analysis is an extremely useful way of measuring a site’s value, and has greatly improved the quality of web search. Both the quantity and, more importantly, the quality of links count towards this rating.

But not all paid links violate Google’s guidelines, as buying and selling is important part of the economy of the web when done for advertising purposes, and not for manipulation of search results. Links purchased for advertising should be designated as:
1. Adding a rel=”nofollow” attribute to the <a> tag
2. Redirecting the links to an intermediate page that is blocked from search engines with a robots.txt file

Hard enough? Yes, because most of Paid Post company ask for their publisher to make a natural link to their own advertiser!

To prevent any future loss of page rank due to this issue you can take the following steps:
1. Remove all sponsored post tags on each of your posts. Search engines can follow these tags to determine if you are being paid for posts.
2. Remove any other tags like “hire me” and “review me”. Any general affiliate banners are fine to keep.
