What to Look For When Choosing a WebHosting

June 2, 2008

Picture of Webhosting lookThe purpose of your web site determines what you need to look for from a web hosting service. A hobby site has very different needs to that of a business site such as Amazon.com. For example, the hobby site would possibly be able to be satisfactorily hosted on a free hosting site whereas Amazon.com would need a dedicated server with 24/7 support and eCommerce capability as a minimum requirement.

For the purposes of this article, I am going to focus on webhosting requirements likely to be required for small business or home based business people.
The most important requirement is reliability. You need a hosting service that has 99.9% up time to ensure that your site visitors can do business with you at any time. Check what is being offered by the hosting provider and ensure that they have a guaranteed up time and also strong support.
Make sure that the support is included in the cost of the hosting plan. It is worthwhile to check the terms of the support offered to ensure that it suits your business.

Next, you need to consider affordability. Hosting on a dedicated server is usually quite expensive and may only be needed for the larger small business operation. The other option is a virtual server. This is an arrangement where a server is shared by a number of sites. These web hosting plans are a lot more affordable for home business people and small businesses and are usually more than satisfactory for their needs. A disadvantage of shared arrangements is that you don’t get to choose your neighbors.

The need for eCommerce capability is also an important consideration. Check that the host provides SSL secure server. Some hosting plans also provide a shopping cart. Check this for ease of use and that the software meets the needs of your business.
Your choice of plans will mainly be dependant upon how much disk space you require and the amount of bandwidth you will be using. Disk space is relatively cheap these days and you can get plans with quantities well in excess of your needs.

However, bandwidth is more expensive and needs more careful consideration. Sometimes, late in a month, you will try to visit a site and a message comes up saying the site is unavailable as it has exceeded it’s bandwidth usage for the month. Unless you are monitoring your site, you may not even know that this has occurred. Therefore, to ensure access to your site is always available, I recommend that you choose the plan with the most bandwidth that you can afford.

Plans will allow you to choose between operating systems. The common ones are Windows, Linux and Mac. In reality, there is not a lot of difference between them and you should choose based on your personal preference or on what platform runs the applications you need on your web server.

Databases are becoming more common as a part of content management systems as well as scripts. Most web hosts these days will cater for these and often provide a range of scripts already available for your use.

You will also need to check how many domain names you are allowed in the hosting package you are considering. If you use sub-domains, check how many as allowed as some providers place limits on these. Check the quantities allowed for parked domains, FTP accounts, and email accounts. Are there enough to meet your current and future needs?

The control panel is your interface with your web hosting service. You need to be comfortable that it is easy to use and that sufficient help is available when you need it to ensure that you can set up and maintain your site.

Don’t be afraid to check out various forums for good and bad comments on the web hosts you are considering. It is also useful to do some searching through the search engines for any information on the companies providing the hosting services to ensure that they are likely to be around for a while.

How to Make a Fake Google PageRank

May 31, 2008

Picture of fake Google PagerankMany webmasters still focus on websites with a high PageRank when it comes to link building and website promotion. They buy PageRank for their site in many ways, such buy links, exchange links, or just by a domain with good Pagerank.
Recently, a new technique of the fake PageRank number of a web site has become popular. Fake Google Pagerank is done by redirecting traffic from googlebot to another site, preferably one with a high PR. So the green bar that shows the PageRank goes up but your pages don’t get indexed or get a single visitor from the engine. This technique called cloaking.
Actually, this fake PageRank technique prevents your web site from showing up in Google because Google thinks that the content of the redirected web site is the content of your site, and doesn’t help your web site rankings or SEO purpose at all. The only effect on your web site is that the green PageRank bar will be longer.

The fake Google Pagerank technique is 301 Redirect the domain you have with .htaccess, PHP header (anything server side) to a page with the desired page rank. It’s better to redirect to something relevant. For example, if you are doing a proxy site, redirect to another proxy site that have good valid PageRank.
Here is the php the code to use: [Read more]

How to Make Money from Expired Domain?

May 27, 2008

Picture of expired domain with PRWhen I started to sell expired domain with Pagerank, I feel that I’m going to make few bucks. But when I tried to promote it to Digitalpoint Forum, some people asked me about the purpose of those expired domain with Pagerank. And I think I’ll try to answer that question here.

Expired domain with Pagerank is domains that will expired in some fashioned time and you are lucky if those domain having a Pagerank on it. I’m sure that you already know about Pagerank (PR). According to Wikipedia, Pagerank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set, Sounds complicated, huh? I won’t discuss it here either, lol!

Back to the advantage of expired domain with Pagerank, some people tried to have it because lately it’s getting harder to achieve a good PR. Therefore, I tried to compile list of expired domain with Pagerank on it and sell it to you.

Expired domain with PR also can be used for Paid to Review (PTR) program. In one of my favourite PTR program, website with PR 2 was valued $5 per post review. And for website with PR 3, you can get $10 per post review. It was the minimum price actually, and it’s different for every PTR third party.
Even I could get $40 per review for PR 4 website, read here for my experience.
I’ll post some PTR list here later.

Also, with Pageranked domain, you can sell links to other website. There are many third party that you can join for this purpose, such Backlinks, TLA, etc. Monthly my income from selling links (not on this domain) is around $70-$100 per domain website.
Another advantage of expired domain with pagerank is that you can use it for parking domain business, but you must check it’s alexa rank before you decide to buy the domain.

Maybe some visitor here could add their own experience on using the pageranked domain for your website monetizing program. Feel free to share it here!
It’s better to develop an expired domain than a new one, yes, you know why! And don’t forget to buy expired domain with pagerank and make more money from internet. Good luck!

Giving Your Online Business Powerful Domain Presence

May 14, 2008

Picture of business domainWhat’s the one make-it-or-break-it item that your online business needs to stand out from the crowd and become a huge success?

The right domain name!

The domain name is what people type in when they want to get to your site; the part that comes after the http:// or the www. It’s your virtual real estate address. Having something they can remember without looking it up each time or keeping it in their bookmarks to be lost among the others is the best thing you can do to get repeat visitors and word-of-mouth free traffic.

People say that all the good names are gone, but that’s about as far from the truth as you can get. Here are some simple guidelines that will make your domain name — and your business — popular and memorable web destinations.

1. Choose a Dot-Com

The number one rule is, go for the dot-com ending, which is typed as .com. This is the Main St. of the virtual real estate world, and the one that most people will type in regardless of what your domain extension actually is. While .net and .org were popular for awhile, and then .us, .biz and .name took the stage, people always revert back to .com — no matter how many fancy country code top level domains are launched into the mainstream, like .cc, .ws, .to, .cn and others.

2. Choose something memorable

You want your business name to be your domain name too, if possible. So if your flower shop is called Suzette’s Flowers, you want to get suzettesflowers.com, assuming it’s available. If not, try adding a dash, like suzettes-flowers.com or a secondary descriptive word like suzettesflowersonline.com or prettysuzettesflowers.com. If you’re creative, you’ll definitely be able to come up with something that works with your business name and is memorable for your customer.

Keep in mind that if you use a dash in your domain name, which some Search Engine Optimization experts say attracts more free traffic to your site, you have to say the dashes if you use your domain name in an audio product or commercial; so it would be “suzettes dash flowers dot com”.
Most people typing in your domain name later will not type the dashes.

3. Get another variation

If you’re lucky enough to grab a great domain name without the dashes, then you might want to get the same name with dashes between the words as well. You can put both of them up on your server as mirror sites to get the benefits of SEO as well as the ease of typing without the dashes.

You may also want to consider getting the .net or .org or even another extension to use as a sister site for your main dot com site… perhaps you put your forum on the .net, or use your .com for your main product and .net for your business background information site.

Even if you’re looking for a domain name that you don’t really think will be available, using your creativity and trying a variety of combinations should allow you to lock down a memorable domain name that will attract people to your website.

Choosing Domain Name

May 8, 2008

Picture of domain nameMake a domain name that reflects to your content.
Except your website has tons of bucks to spend on marketing campaign & well known branded name, like microsoft, compaq or others. I would like to suggest you to name your domain and buy it with a word that reflects to your content and probably if you lucky enough it’s one of your keyword.

If your content is about free software, then don’t waste your money on domain with something like http://www.longtailsoftware.com, maybe your mind has been set that longtailsoftware is stand from “a button software”, but have you set others mind? Absoftware, is much more better instead of previous domain name, beside free software itself is a keyword and with offline marketing, people will identify your company faster just from an url address.
