July 25, 2008
Please listen to me when I say that even waterproof cameras cannot withstand underwater photography. Be sure to check your underwater digital camera’s viewfinder to check the right picture angle and size that you want. Like me, you are just some photo junkie who wants to capture underwater moments and just cant figure out how without ruining your cameras. These casing will turn your conventional digital camera into an underwater digital camera. And when I say anywhere, I mean that memories are even created underwater – so the creation of underwater digital camera. But I think it is safe to assume that you, my reader, are neither a marine scientist nor a professional photographer.Check out Sony, Nikon and Canon’s website for available underwater cases for your digital cameras. Also, remember to always wash of salt when you’ve used it under salt water.Memories are created just about anywhere.Silica gel will keep the moisture from forming inside your camera case. Make sure that no grain of sand or piece of hair is stuck in between the seal to make sure that water will not permeate the case and thus wet your camera in the process. Macro lenses will help you capture small things without getting too close and startling your subject. In cases when sands seem to get into the case, they are better washed off with streams of water. Before using your underwater digital camera, submerge the camera in the water first for several seconds then check if there are leaks through the case. [Read more]

All Systems Go – Three Compatibility Options for HDTV
July 20, 2008
HDTV is an excellent advancement in technology that provides superior picture and sound quality when compared to traditional analog television. But, there are many different ways to take advantage of this technology, mainly broadcast antenna, cable, or satellite.
Broadcast Television
ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, and the WB all broadcast prime time shows in high definition. In fact, the FCC ruled that commercial broadcasters such as these had to begin changing over to digital transmission as early as May of 2002. According to the National Association of Broadcasters, 1155 of over-the-air broadcasters in the United States met this initial deadline.
In addition, the FCC has supplied broadcasters with sufficient bandwidth to broadcast HDTV programming. Despite the FCC’s regulations and assistance with bandwidth, the government agency has not has not established any form of checks and balances to ensure broadcasters are, indeed, broadcasting in HDTV. Nokia Acquires Plazes, Geo-based Social Network
June 24, 2008
Nokia is to acquire Swiss start-up Plazes in a deal which the handset maker says will help it develop location-based social networking. European geo-based companies continue to be a hot commodity, with Nokia announcing June 23 it has acquired Plazes, which develops Web platforms for location sharing and publishing. This is the second “mobile social network” in Europe to be acquired in as many months - Danish startup ZYB was acquired by Vodafone in May for 31.5 million Euro.
The deal allows Nokia to extend its context-based service offering with social presence and time-based activity planning features. Plazes adds the elements of place and time to social networking through features that allow people to alert friends and associates to their activities and locations.
Plazes, a privately-owned company of 13 employees founded in 2006, makes a “context-aware social activity service that people can use to plan, record and share their social activities: why they are at a given location at a given time, whether in the past, present of future,” Nokia said in a statement. NASA Gets Ready for Phoenix to Touchdown on Mars
May 25, 2008
After nearly 10 months speeding across 422 million miles (679 million km), the Phoenix spacecraft is just days away from plunging into the Martian atmosphere on Sunday to land near the north pole of Mars. Before the spacecraft, named Phoenix, can dig up ice samples to analyze, it must touch down safely, a prospect that is giving flight control teams and scientists a bad case of nerves. Landing is expected at 4:53 p.m. PDT (11:53 p.m. GMT) on Sunday.
US space scientists were to attempt Sunday to land a 420-million-dollar spacecraft near Mars’s frigid north pole, but were concerned that the odds for success were less than 50 percent.
“This is not a trip to Grandma’s house. Putting a spacecraft safely on Mars is hard and risky,” said Ed Weiler, associate administrator for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington, D.C.
Because of the 171 million miles (275 million km) between Mars and Earth during Phoenix’s red planet arrival, it will take signals about 15 to 20 minutes to reach NASA’s control center at JPL once they’re sent.
The probe will work under harsh conditions with temperatures ranging between minus 73 degrees and minus 33 degrees Celsius (minus 99 to minus 27 degrees Fahrenheit).
“We’re working at night, because that’s when the spacecraft is going to land,” Bass told SPACE.com, adding that the entire Phoenix team should now be in place at JPL and at a primary mission control center at the University of Arizona, Tucson. “This will be just an absolutely thrilling experience.”

Should the landing go as planned, ground controllers expect to hear the first signal on Sunday evening local time. But despite biting their nails to the quick, mission controllers are confident the probe can pull off its perilous descent and embark on ground-breaking research in the planet’s northern plains. The weather forecast is good and the spacecraft on target to hit its target landing site.
Phoenix is equipped with a camera and a 2.35-meter (7.7-foot) robotic arm that can dig as deep as one meter to find ice and heat up samples to detect carbon and hydrogen molecules, essential elements of life.
With its two solar panels unfurled, Phoenix is five meters wide and 1.52 meters long (16 feet wide and five feet long). It weighs 350 kilograms (772 pounds), including 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of scientific instruments.

Solar Power Bra, Eco-Friendly Charge
May 18, 2008
Clearly we’re huge fans of environmentally-friendly innovation, but this has got to be one of the most ridiculous ideas ever to hit the green market. Japanese lingerie maker Triumph International have invented the perfect eco-friendly girl gadget: the solar-powered bra.
The bra comes with a detachable solar panel, worn around the stomach, which can generate enough electricity to power an iPod or mobile, the makers claim. “It is very comfortable and I can really feel involved in eco-friendly efforts as well,” model Yuko Ishida said.
The environmentally friendly, green-colored brassiere includes a solar belt that goes around the stomach, but its creator admits that “people usually cannot got outside without wearing clothes over it” and says it should not be washed or worn in the rain to avoid damage. The green bra boasts a solar panel around the midriff that can generate enough energy to power an Ipod or its small monitor, which can display messages, such as “save the planet.” It also features liquid-holding baggies with detachable straws in an effort to discourage use of cans and bottles.

“It is very comfortable and I can really feel involved in eco-friendly efforts as well,” model Yuko Ishida said. Of course it raises some interesting issues, given that most folks would wear clothing over them. And then there is this bit from the company: you can’t wash the garment.
The message is very clear. To save our Earth is really crucial - so crucial even women underwear can take a part. The bra was revealed prior to the 2008 G8 Hokkaido Toyoko Summit that will address environmental issues.
Apparently this company keeps looking for innovative ways to use ladies lingerie as they have previously created a bra that turns into a reusable shopping bag. Other “green” concept bras include one with a reusable shopping bag folded conveniently inside, and a “my chopsticks” bra that holds a handy set of reusable, collapsible chopsticks that can be tucked in either side.

AlphaGrip Handheld Computer, Ergonomic, High Speed and Alienware
May 3, 2008
The AlphaGrip Handheld Computer (AlphaGrip HC) actually a very terrestrial device with high-performance high-speed portable concept computer made for gamers. It has full-size rocker keys on the back which, along with the thumb keys on the front, enable high speed, 10-finger touch-typing and gaming at rates of 250-350 key presses or 50-70 words per minute.
There are buttons that are positioned to increase typing speed up to 200%, while maintaining a pretty dainty size measuring only 6 5/8 x 6 3/8 x 3.5 inches, with an optional folding display of just 3 inches across.
Honestly, I would half expect to get beat up if I walked down the street using this.

With an AlphaGrip HC a user could quickly and comfortably create text messages, emails, and documents, write code, take notes, enter data, and do graphic design, or play sophisticated PC games, from any location in any position; while standing, walking, sitting, riding, or reclining.
We humans had a fine run on Earth but the alien visitors have finally landed!
